IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A "WORD FROM THE LORD," THIS IS IT

This video is the context for the clip which I sent to you yesterday.  It is, without a doubt, the Word of the Lord Jesus Christ for the Church, for the nations, for our time.

ALISTAIR BEGG: "THE MAN ON THE MIDDLE CROSS"

"I THANK MY GOD I SPEAK IN TONGUES"-- PAUL--- AND ME :)

"I wish you all spoke with tongues....For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understand is unfruitful.  What is the conclusion then?  I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding....I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all...."  (The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 14)

There are those who believe that praying in other tongues is not necessary "at best," or of the devil, at worst.   They are people who prefer to live in their minds, viz., "the understanding."  I prefer to live in the spirit/Spirit, with whatever our Lord Jesus Christ provides for any "understanding."

Father, in Jesus' Name, I thank You for any "understanding" which You give to me.  I desire so much, however, to also walk in what I cannot understand.  Amen.

"A PRAYER OF THE AFFLICTED"

"Hear my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come to You."  (Psalm 102:1)

Our text is in a Psalm which is described as, "A Prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed and pours out his complaint before the Lord."

At one point the psalmist says that he felt like, "....a pelican of the wilderness; I am like an owl of the desert.  I lie awake, and am like a sparrow alone on the housetop."

Anyone with any humility will admit that we have been there.   Later, however, after the psalmist felt, "....alone on the housetop", he nevertheless declares, "But You, O Lord, shall endure forever....[You] shall regard the prayer of the destitute, and shall not despise their prayer."  Jesus is, "Faithful and True."

Father, in Jesus' Name, I thank You that you do, "....not despise [my] prayer."  Amen.

When Peter, an 18 year old Norwegian, "heard the call to evangelize China, on that day he not only emptied his wallet into the collection plate, but included a small note with the words, 'and my life.'"

"THEN THEY WILL...EARNESTLY SEEK ME"

"I will return again to My place till they acknowledge their offense.  Then they will seek My face; in their affliction they will earnestly seek Me."  (Hosea 5:15)

If we can say that our Lord Jesus Christ has a "purpose" in any afflictions which come our way, we can say with certainty that His purpose is, "Then they will seek My face; in their affliction they will earnestly seek Me."

"....Earnestly seek Me?"  Do we?  Just as in Ezekiel where He says at least 58 times, "....then they will know that I am the Lord", the glorious love of the Godhead for humanity is revealed.

"Come to me, all you who are burdened and heavy laden, and I will give you rest."  Oh, that you and I may never forget so great a love.  I pray that the world, in all, "....their affliction...will earnestly seek Me," our Lord Jesus Christ.

Father, in Jesus' Name, I thank You for Your purposes.  Amen.

LOVE, BLAMELESS, HOLINESS

"And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all...so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints."  (1 Thessalonians 3:12, 13)

What I took particular note of in today's text is the connection between, "....love to one another..," and, "....blameless in holiness...."  I think it would be accurate to say that if we do not, "....increase and abound in love (which is doing loving things) to one another and to all...," there can be no, "blameless in holiness...."

The Bible is full of commands to walk in holiness, such as in Leviticus 19, "Be holy, for I Am holy."  I have felt for a long time, however, that there is more to holiness than just, "set apart." 1 Peter 1:2 tells us, "....elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ."

No matter what we may have heard about holiness over our life times, it is not just abstaining from things; it is doing things, as the Holy Spirit says in 1 Peter, "....for obedience."

Father, in Jesus' Name, I thank You for today's "revelation."  Amen.

INSTEAD OF SAYING, "MY MINISTRY," SAY, "MY SERVICE"

"And say to Archippus, "Take heed to the ministry (service) which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it.'"  (Colossians 4:17)

"Service," is the best translation of the Greek word translated, "ministry."

Too many people equate "ministry" only with the likes of preaching, teaching, missions, prophecy, singing, etc.  "Ministry," is, "service," not personal identity.  Every Follower of Jesus Christ may not preach, teach, sing, etc.  What we can do, however, is serve

If you think that you cannot say, "my ministry,"  try saying, "my service," instead, and you will find that you do have a ministry; we all do.

Service is love manifested, love lived out for others.  Galatians 5:13 says, "For you, brethren have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."

Father, in Jesus' Name, I pray I be, "as one who serves," Your People, everyone. Amen.

OVER 365,000,000 FOLLOWERS OF JESUS AT RISK

"They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service."  (John 16:2)

When I was a young man, especially in my teen years, my "sheltered life" made it difficult for me to relate to many of the Psalms, and all passages which spoke of suffering.

Then at age 25 I read God's Smuggler and life began to change.  Over the years I personally met Followers of Jesus who had been in prison, beaten, watched by neighbor-informers, and had close relatives who had been killed for following Jesus.  Yes, and there are still 365,000,000+ people who are going through all of the above.

Two things:  First, I am thankful to live here in the United States of America where it is extremely rare that anyone is killed for being a Follower of Jesus.  Secondly, however, there is a call for you and me to do all we can to serve those who daily face the reality of our text.

Father, in Jesus' Name, I pray for the millions of the Brethren who face death daily for Your Name.  Amen.

JESUS WORKED IT IN--WE MUST WORK IT OUT

"Therefore,...work out your salvation with fear and trembling."  (From Philippians 2:12

We need to read vv. 1-11 in order to know why the "therefore" is there for.

Do you think we could say that since Jesus Christ works our salvation in, we should then work it out?  Perhaps.

If so, the how to, "work out your own salvation," must begin with, "fear and trembling."  Secondly, there can be no, "work out your own salvation," without obedience to the Words of our Lord Jesus Christ as revealed in the Scriptures, being the number one priority for guidance.

Father, in Jesus' Name, this has always had my wonderment.  I submit afresh, however, to walking out this command.  Amen.

AN "EXPECTATION" CHECK

"He is not here; for He is risen, as He said.  Come, see the place where the Lord lay."  (Matthew 28:6)

"He is not here."  He could have added, "....even though you expected Him to be here."

It was a shock, because they expected Jesus to be in the tomb; He was not.  Instead, they heard and saw, "He is not here....He is risen, [just] as He said."

Life Lesson:  I need to expect Jesus "to be" where I don't expect Him to be.

"Hallelujah, my Father, for giving us Your Son; Sending Him into the world to be given up for men, knowing we would bruise Him and smite Him from the earth. Hallelujah, my Father in His death is my birth; Hallelujah, my Father, in His life is my life."  Amen.

CHANGING THE PRONOUNS TO NOUNS

"Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse.  And [Jesus] who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness [Jesus] judges and makes war.  [Jesus] eyes were like a flame of fire, and on [Jesus] head were many crowns.  [Jesus] had a name written that no one knew except (Jesus) Himself.  [Jesus] was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and [Jesus'] name is called The Word of God.  And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean followed [Jesus] on white horses.  Now out of [Jesus] mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it [Jesus] should strike the nations.  And [Jesus] Himself will rule them with a rod of iron.  [Jesus] Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  And [Jesus] has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:
                                          KING OF KINGS AND
                                          LORD OF LORDS."  (Revelation 18)

"....THE OLD ORDER OF THINGS HAS PASSED AWAY"

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passes away."  (Revelation 21:4, NIV)

What I took particular note of today is, "....for the old order of things has passed away."  This will happen.  But the thought occurred to me, Why not live in the "new order" now, that is, in our thinking and world view.  If this "old order" will pass away, why do we spend so much of our time thinking in old order terms, investing in old order life styles?

I believe that the coming revival will bring the Church into more and more "new order" thinking and living, which is another way of saying, "....but we have the mind of Christ."  What an absolute contrast with "old order" thinking and living.

Father, in Jesus' Name, Only Your Words can impart Your Mind.  Amen.

A "NEW" LOOK AT REVIVAL

"Again He said to me, 'Prophesy to these bones, and say to them,' "O dry bones, hear the Word of the Lord!"

I have over that last several days been praying for revival.  Now, of course, many of us have been praying for that for many years.  This, however, is different.

I don't know how to explain it, but I have been having a real sense that Father is letting us in on something.  To pray for this revival, one will have to forget our previous understanding, even desire for revival.

I believe the word of John Baptist, that Jesus, "....will baptize you in the Holy Ghost and with fire," will be central.  This is going to be great.

Father, in Jesus' Name, when You speak may I not automatically think I know what you are saying or are about.  Amen.

"....COMFORT IN MY AFFLICTION...."

"This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your Word has preserved me alive."  (Psalm 119:50, NASB)

This is my testimony.  I do not read the Bible because we are supposed to.  I read the Bible because I have to.  The, "Word has preserved me alive."  Let me share a quote from Martin Luther.

"I should gladly have seen all my books forgotten and destroyed, if only for the reason that I am afraid of the example I may give.  For I see what benefit it has to the church that men have begun to collect many books and great libraries outside and alongside of the Holy Scriptures, and especially have begun to scramble together without any distinction, all sorts of 'fathers,' 'councils,' and 'doctors.'  Not only has good time been wasted and the study of the Scriptures neglected, but the pure understanding of God's word is lost....It was our intention and our hope when we began to put the Bible into German that there would be less writing and more studying and reading of the Scriptures....I only ask in all kindness that the man who at this time wishes to have my books will by no means let them be a hindrance to his own study of the Scriptures....'"

Father, in Jesus' Name, I neglected Your Words to my own hurt.  Thank You that you brought me "home" so long ago.  Amen.

PSALM NUGGET;
"Be my rock of habitation, to which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, for You are my rock and my fortress."  (Psalm 71:3)

OT LESSON:
"But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up."  (Ecc. 4:10)

NT LESSON:

"....TO REVEAL HIS SON IN ME...."

"....It pleased God...to reveal His Son in me...." (From Galatians 1:15, 16)

This is precisely what it "pleases" God to do in you and me also, indeed, in all who surrender their lives to Jesus Christ.

Many times we may not seem like we are good examples of this.  We absolutely must, however, get over looking at ourselves and resolutely, "....run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus."

Confess this out loud with me: "....It pleased God to reveal His Son in me."

Father, in Jesus' Name, I pray that I get over myself and into You.  Amen.

"TRULY MY SOUL......................."

"Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation.  He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved....My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from him.  He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.  In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God....God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God."  (Psalm 62:1, 2, 5-8, 11)

I made a particular note of one verse of this Psalm for a text, then kept taking notes of others, until I came up with many verses from Psalm 62.  Again, just reading aloud the Psalms is its own medicine.

I have been meeting weekly with about 17 people from various "stages" in their relationship in Jesus; some of them have none.  I have encouraged them several times to read the Bible with the heart, not just the mind.  It will make all the difference in our attitude towards Bible reading.

Yes, the Bible speaks of understanding and wisdom, but remember Romans 10:  "For with the heart one believes unto righteousness...."  And, "with the heart," one receives the impartation of Jesus' Words.

Father, in Jesus' Name, thank You for the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in Your Words, and, the impartation of Your life in those Words.  Amen.

"WHAT NOW?"

"'He trusts in the Lord,' they say, 'let the Lord rescue him.  Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.'"  (Psalm 22:8, NIV)

This is a "foreshadow" of Jesus on the Cross, the mocking, the ridicule.  But has this ever happened to you?  Perhaps it has without you even knowing about it.  Maybe what is worse is when one does it to oneself.

You and I trust in our Lord Jesus Christ; we delight in Jesus Christ.  There are times/seasons, however, when the "rescue" and deliverance for which we long and pray do not seem to be "there."  What to do?

Not long after our Stephen died, my Dad and I were standing in the living room.  He stood there with his hands in his pockets and said to me, "What now?"  Without thinking about it, my response was, "We go on."  Not real profound perhaps, but I'm still going on------- in Jesus Christ.  May that be your life motto, my friend.

Father, in Jesus' Name, I thank You for the power and grace to, "We go on."  Amen.

WORSHIP AND PRAISE IS A TWO-WAY FELLOWSHIP

"For the Lord your God is living among you.  He is a mighty Savior.  He will take delight in you with gladness. With His love, He will calm all your fears.  He will rejoice over you with joyful songs."  (Zephaniah 3:17, NLT)

I have said it before, but worship is a "two-way street."  For all the words in our praises and worship, no matter how many and how glorious, we find as many loving-on-you-and-me expressions in the Bible of the Godhead towards us.

For example, we may say, "Lord God, You are so wonderful to me," or, "I love You, Lord God," or, "I exalt You," etc.  And our Lord's response to us?  "He will rejoice over you with gladness,...He will rejoice over you with singing."  And in Jeremiah 31:3 He declares to us, "....I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you."

Moreover, then, and perhaps above all, there is The Cross.

Father, in Jesus' Name, keep me ever mindful that any expression I can utter or demonstrate of my worship of You, pale in comparison to Your expressions and demonstration of Your love for me.  Amen.

"....THE SPIRITUAL ROCK THAT ACCOMPANIED THEM...."

"They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ."
(1 Corinthians 10:3, 4--NIV)

This is a glorious picture of what the Godhead intended for humanity, "before the beginning began."

Strong's says that the Greek Word for, "follow," means, "to follow one who precedes, join him as his attendant, accompany him."  What a wonderful picture of intimacy.  Yes, the Good News is, "Christ in us," but the Bible is full of such language as in our text to show us that our Father, Son Jesus, and Holy Spirit literally have us covered and provided for.

Enjoy these, "God-Breathed," Words today, that our King and Savior Jesus Christ is our, "Drink," and our, "Rock" the One Who "precedes, joins, and accompanies" us in this sojourn.

"Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, 'I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU. NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU.'"  (Hebrews 13:5, NASB)

This is an exhortation to not worry about provision.  And the reason is, while short, all encompassing for our every moment of our lives,  "For [Jesus] Himself has said, 'I will never desert.., nor...ever forsake you."

"But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption."  (Hebrews 9:11, 12--NASB)

This epistle was written primarily to Jews, but as with all Scripture, just as Colossians was written to the Church at Colossae, it is for us all.  These Words are clear.  These Words are Life.  These Words tell me some of the Eternal "effect" of the Cross of Jesus Christ.

"Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nations, O, Thou of God and man, the Son.  Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor, Thou, my soul's glory, joy and crown. "  Amen.

NT LESSON:
"Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree'), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."  (Galatians 3:13, 14)

When Peter, an 18 year old Norwegian, "heard the call to evangelize China, on that day he not only emptied his wallet into the collection plate, but included a small note with the words, 'and my life.'"

ANOTHER LOOK AT ROMANS 8:28

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."  (Romans 8:28)

This is not a "multiple choice."  There are two integral requirements here:  "love God," and, "called according to His purpose."

"Love God," means a life walked in obedience to Him.  "Called...to His purpose," means a conversion experience which began and continues in repentance and walks continually in, "His purpose."  Our Lord Jesus Christ put it this way:  "If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me...."

Father, in Jesus' Name, I pray to be more than just a quoter of Scripture.  Amen.
