The Wrath of Man" Is Christ's "Weapon"

"Surely the wrath of man shall praise Youwith the remainder of wrath You shall gird Yourself." (Psalm 76:10)

The NLT says, "Human defiance only enhances your glory, for you use it as a weapon."
What a mock of, "the wrath of man."  I know, I know.  Most Christians are too nice to think that God actually mocks, but He does.  Of course I don't think it is the mean, uncaring, hatred mock of unregenerate man, but it nevertheless is mocking.  I admit, this is difficult theology.  But consider the response of Father when, "the kings of the earth set themselves...against the LORD and against His Christ....He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the LORD shall hold them in derision (mocks)."  All major world empires have done nothing throughout world history but to demonstrate what one commentary says of our text, "Man's wrath praises God by its futility before His power."
Our text is an affirmation of the The Reign and Power of King Jesus in that He takes what is left over of the wrath, mocking, sneering, and blasphemy of man and wears it like clothing. In other words, Jesus Christ just wraps, "the wrath of man," around His shoulders.  He demonstrates that the wrath, the hatred of man cannot dissuade Him from His Lordship, nor from His love for man.  It is, "a weapon," in that Christ's wearing of man's wrath reveals to those whose hearts can receive it that, "the wrath of man," does nothing to diminish Who He Is.  In fact, "Human defiance only enhances Your glory."

Could there be something here for you and me to consider in our approach to degenerate humanity?  What if you and I used, "human defiance...as a weapon"?  How different would be the witness of the Church if our response to their wrath would be, I can handle it. In fact, I'll just wear it, no arguing, no mean talk, no fighting back with their methods, but as those in whom Jesus Christ lives, we demonstrate a continual affirmation in us as Christ's People, "the wrath of man shall praise You."

Father, in Jesus' Name, I have worn too much of me.  I want to wear what You wear.  Amen.

"You Have Given the Commandment to Save...."

"Be my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, for You are my rock and my fortress." (Psalm 71:3)

If King Jesus gives a command, you can know of certainty it will be done.  Here the psalmist declares that the King has, "given the commandment to save me...."  God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, has been giving this command since the Garden.  King Jesus saved us in His Cross, in His Blood, as First Peter says, "Who Himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, might live for righteousness--- by whose strips you were healed."  Nothing or no one in the universe can frustrate the commands of the Blessed Trinity.

Okay, with that in mind, I have (forgive the analogy) "upped the ante."  I am asking as Isaiah told King Ahaz, "Ask a sign for yourself from the LORD your God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven."  I am not going to play the humble bumble game which Ahaz tried to pull.  I am asking, "deep," and, "high."  Here it is: I am asking that King Jesus give, "the commandment to save," the United States of America, and, I believe our Commander in Chief gave me a tactical prayer the other day from Psalm 64:8.  "So He will make them stumble over their own tongue; all who see them shall flee away."  I prayed this: "Father, in Jesus' Name, I pray that, "[You] will make," all your enemies in the United States of America, "stumble over their own tongue...."

Now you can take this in whatever way you choose, but that very evening, a very prominent talk show host on a very prominent network was interviewing several people.  In the middle of the interview, he just began to literally, "stumble over [his] own tongue," literally.  He not only groped for words, but at times nothing would come out of his mouth.
O:-)

Father, in Jesus' Name, I continually ask that You will make all Who are opposed to You, "stumble over their own tongue."  Amen.

Man's Choice: "Destruction/Destroyer" Or Creator/Deliverer

"And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in the Greek he has the name Appollyon." (Revelation 9:11)

"I wish I could place my trust in the hands of a Creator.  I wish I could look in my life and the lives of my children and all I have loved and see them as preludes to a better world.  But, try as I might, I cannot.  And so I am left to ponder the pointlessness of our strivings on this earth and to ask impossible questions, and receive no answers."  This is a quote from a recent book written by a popular conservative writer.   "Pointlessness of our strivings on this earth," is the only conclusion of a life without Jesus, a life without total trust in, and acceptance of His Words.  The stark reality of life is that the test tube will not prove Him and His Words, the debate of mankind cannot "prove" Him, will solve nothing, convince no one.  Only absolute trust can "prove" Him.

Our text speaks of his Satanic majesty whose work is to leave humanity with the same pointless, hopeless conclusion as the above writer.  The margin of my Bible says that the literal meaning of, "Abaddon," is, "Destruction," and, "Apollyon," is, "Destroyer."  It is interesting that our text is 9:11, a day which revealed, "Destruction," and, "Destroyer."  No more accurate description of the Devil/Satan and his work exists.  He is, "Destruction," personified, and wherever he rules, whether in nations or in men, his sole purpose in existence is to be the, "Destroyer," of everything, mankind, nature, the universe of God's Creation.  The writer quoted above is a sad example of the work of, "Destruction," a life destroyed by the, "Destroyer."  Rev. 9:1 says, "To him was given the key to the bottomless pit," literally, "shaft of the abyss."  Do you see today just what, "the accuser of the Brethren," offers humanity?  Does not everything which describes Satan describe a life without Jesus Christ?  On the other hand, in Jesus Christ we have The Creator, Healer, Deliverer, Shepherd, Light, Bread, Resurrection, Way, Truth, Life.  Who would choose any Other?

Father, in Jesus' Name, I thank You that when, "Destruction," and, "Destroyer," come at me, Creator, Healer, Deliverer,  Resurrection Shepherd wins.  Amen.

"Men Listened to Me....But Now...."

"Men listened to me and waited, and kept silence for my counsel....But now they mock at me, men younger than I, whose fathers I disdained to put with the dogs of my flock." (Job 29:21 & 30:1)

In the midst of Job's deep suffering, he is considering his life's journey.  At one time he was "at the top of his game;" now, he's at the bottom.  This was painful for him.  Everything seemed to affirm that he was now an utter failure, "And now I am their taunting song; Yes, I am their bywordThey abhor me, they keep far from me; they do not hesitate to spit in my face" (30:9, 10).

Remember how popular Jesus was with, "the multitudes"?  Now He was, "a stone's throw," from His "inner circle" disciples.  But while they slept, He was agonizing over what was to come, "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me...."  Then, there was that horrendous cry from the Cross, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"  From the crowds yelling, "Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord," to this moment of mocking, "He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.'"

My friend, do not succumb to some silly spirituality today.  I too can quote all the "countering" Scriptures and the latest catch phrases.  But the victory declarations do not diminish the moment of, "Why have You forsaken Me"? and, "they do not hesitate to spit in my face."  If you have ever been there, or perhaps are there now, you know in some measure the pain, even the agony of these two great men of the Bible.

But consider for a moment, weary traveler, what Father says of two apparent "failures."  Of Job He says, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth...?"  And of our Lord Jesus, the One the Bible calls, "Immanuel, God with us," Father says, "This is My Beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased."  If this is "failure," you can have "success."

Father, in Jesus' Name, as I have been "there," I pray for anyone reading this who is now "there."  May You be able to say of both of us, "This is_____, in whom I am well pleased."  Amen.

"The Silent Dove in Distant Lands"

"Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; fighting all day he oppresses me."  (Psalm 56:1)

"....swallow me up," literally, "pants as a raging beast."  This was Saul's year after year pursuit of David.  You and I encounter such enemies of the Cross everyday, some very obvious and some, perhaps the most dangerous, we walk right by without a clue, still, "fighting all day he oppresses me."  This is not to justify paranoia; this is just the reality of our life in Jesus.

The title notation of this Psalm is, "The Silent Dove in Distant Lands."  Does this not sound like the journey of the Follower of Jesus?  While, "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof," and while we are, "joint heirs with Christ," it is also true that, as Hebrews 11 says, "By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange (foreigncountry....For he looked for a city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God."  Does this not sound like a "....Silent Dove in Distant Lands"?

Verses 6-9:  There are those who, "....mark my steps, when they lie in wait for my life," yet, "The Lord [Jesus Christ Who] Is my Shepherd," does not forget me.  Even in his wanderings and tears, this "Silent Dove in Distant Lands" knows that, "You keep track of all my sorrows.  You have collected all my tears in your bottle.  You have recorded each one in your book."  And as continual unrelenting attacks come my way, "My enemies will retreat when I call to You for help" (NLT).

Father, in Jesus' Name, no matter all the bravado of some, I affirm that, "My enemies will retreat (only) when I call to You for help."  Amen.
