AMERICA: DO YOU KNOW WHY WE ARE HERE?!?

"....to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity...."  (Proverbs 1:3)

Our text is some of what guided William Penn and the "best" of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America.  There is in the "DNA" of the United States the constitution of The Kingdom of Heaven ----- the Bible.  Believe it or not, I can remember some of my school teachers reading today's text in my state-run grammar school.

Along with our text, our King and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Luke 4, gives further insight into the constitution of the Kingdom of Heaven:
        1. "to preach the gospel to the poor;
        2. ....to heal the brokenhearted,
        3. to proclaim liberty to the captives
        4. and recovery of sight to the blind,
        5. to set at liberty those who are oppressed...."

On this July 4th weekend, Americans should remember that all of the above Words of God were once read in the Patriot Street and Union Street elementary schools as well as the Cochran Junior High and Johnstown High School classrooms.

Father, in Jesus' Name, I pray that Your Church breaks out of the "Sunday" principle.  Amen.

"Praise Him"

"Praise Him for His might acts; praise Him for His excellent greatness."  (Psalm 150:2)

I praise Him today, "....for His excellent greatness", revealed in Jesus Christ.

Reading the last five Psalms today, the thought occurred to me that when you and I cannot come up with words for our prayers, or, "don't know how to pray as we ought," do what the psalmist did, "....Praise Him....Praise Him....Praise Him...."

The last five Psalms are full of, "Praise Him."  So should you and I.

Father, in Jesus' Name, I do, "Praise [You] for [Your] mighty acts"---- with the sound of," [my trombone.]  Amen.

When Peter, an 18 year old Norwegian, "heard the call to evangelize China, on that day he not only emptied his wallet into the collection plate, but included a small note with the words, 'and my life.'"

"The Glorious Majesty of His Kingdom"

"They shall speak of the glory of Your Kingdom, and talk of Your power, to make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His Kingdom.  Your kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom, and Your Dominion endures throughout all generations."  (Psalm 145)

I concur with David.  King Jesus and His Kingdom, think of it, "....
an everlasting Kingdom," or, "a Kingdom of all ages."

Father, in Jesus' Name, Help me more and more to "see" the, "glorious majesty of  [Your] Kingdom."  Amen.

When Peter, an 18 year old Norwegian, "heard the call to evangelize China, on that day he not only emptied his wallet into the collection plate, but included a small note with the words, 'and my life.'"

SOME MAY CALL THIS A "SO WHAT" DEVOTIONAL

"The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ."  (Revelation 11:15)

Our text seems to declare that, "....the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ," is in the process of taking over the humanist kingdoms, a process which has been going on from the "beginning," and was declared, revealed, and demonstrated in Jesus Christ.

Maybe the Kingdom of Heaven is better demonstrated than taught.  Jesus said a number of times in Matthew, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like...."  According to Luke 13:20, Jesus said, "To what shall I liken the Kingdom of God?"  Is there a certain inexplicableness about the Kingdom?

When one considers the parables of the mustard seed and the leaven, for example, there is a similarity in them to what I once told a graduating class of a Kingdom, aka, Christian high school.  I paraphrased the "Great Commission/Command" as, "Go into all the world and take over."

Father, in Jesus' Name, may Your Church so do.  Amen.
