Prophetic Word, September 20, 2008
"Why then does my suffering continue? Why is my wound so incurable? Your help seems as uncertain as a seasonal brook, like a spring that has gone dry." (Jeremiah 15:18-- NLT)
During a national men's prayer session this morning, I received this Scripture. After some prayer, I believe Jesus spoke to my heart and said, "This nation is following false prophets and being driven by the spirit of false prophecy." Let me explain.
Biblical Theology states clearly that mankind is to "run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus...." It is not, "'looking unto' government." Obama and the Democrat Party are strong proponents of ,"Looking unto Government, as 'the author and finisher' of your salvation." This is classic idolatry aided by false prophets. Over the last 8 years, I have witnessed this spirit in the Senate Gallery, the hearings, and prevailing political science of the Democrat Party. And, after recent events in the nation, I believe the whole political landscape is full of such a philosophy.
The reason this spirit has been growing in power and influence in America since the 1930s is that the nation, and far too much of the church, has adopted the attitude of Jeremiah in our text. "Your help seems as uncertain as a seasonal brook, like a spring that has gone dry." So, what does a nation do when it needs "help," and life seems so "uncertain," and the proverbial well "has gone dry?" It looks for "help" elsewhere. Inevitably, a spirit of religion takes possession,
and the search is on for a "messiah" and a system which will do what "Looking unto Jesus," and trusting the "God-Breathed" Word has seemingly failed to do. Since God is perceived "as uncertain as a seasonal brook, like a spring that has gone dry," a "palms up," give-me-everything-I-want, reward-my-greed, everyone-owes-me culture turns to another god. It is what one of the Black African pastors called a "vagrant spirit." The word, vagrant, is defined as "a person without a settled home or regular work who wanders from place to place and lives by begging," or, "a bird that has strayed or been blown from its usual range or migratory route."
The American Church is as a bird "that has strayed or been blown from its usual range or migratory route," and has exchanged the "route" of, "Looking unto Jesus," for the "route" of, "Looking unto me, my ministry, our church. We can do for you what no other ministry or church can do." Is it any wonder then that this spirit is so prevalent, not just in the American political scene, but in the culture at large? The American church has given up on the True Messiah, and replaced Him with messiahs of their own. If religious people look unto leaders and religious organizations, and not "unto Jesus," Word of the Father, how can we expect anything different from the unbelieving nation?!?
I might add, my prediction that this coming election would be the most ominous choice between Light and Darkness which this nation has ever witnessed is being fulfilled right before my eyes. I have never witnessed such vicious attacks and hatred for a political candidate as I have heard and seen expressed towards Sarah Palin. MSNBC has been the worst, but CNN and the rest are not far behind. Along with so many others, they are doing to Sarah as they did to George Bush after he mentioned the Name of Jesus in the 2000 primary election season. Make no mistake about it; He has been hated here and abroad, not so much for his political philosophy, as his identification with Jesus Christ. Remember the word of Jesus, "You will be hated by all because of My name!!" I have never heard the President mention the Name of Jesus since, and I don't know his current relation with Jesus, but the Powers of Darkness have a very long memory. Now the appearance on the American political scene of Sarah Palin, a Believer in Jesus Christ, baptized in water and baptized in the Holy Spirit and the Book of Acts experience of speaking in other tongues, has unleashed demons in this country that have been never before unleashed.
Okay, what to do------ 1). Refuse this Jesus-can't-but-government-can spirit wherever it rears its ugly head. 2). Resist in the Holy Spirit the perception and deception that "[God's] help seems as uncertain as a seasonal brook, like a spring that has gone dry." 3). Beware the false prophets who appeal to your sense of victimization, especially women, minorities, and the so-called middle class. 4). Flee from any politician or preacher, anyone, who would assert otherwise. 5). Live in the reality that your identity is Jesus Christ, His Prophetic Word, His Kingdom, not your gender, ethnicity, race, economic status, political party, or culture. 6). Be prepared to stand with any government leader who identifies with Jesus Christ and His Kingdom. The forces of Satan, which the American church has allowed to gain the upper hand in this country, will be attacking Sarah and those like her even more so in the days ahead. 7). Get in a committed prayer group to pray for all of the above.
"What are you prepared to do?!?"
One last exhortation---Here is the Word's response to Jeremiah's wavering and doubt. It is the "word" of the hour for the American Church. "If you return to me, I will restore you so you can continue to serve me. If you speak good words rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman. You must influence them; do not let them influence you!"
Father, in Jesus' Name, Light and Darkness are manifesting more than I ever thought possible in America. Grant me all that You have for me to prevail in the battle. Amen.

Financial Crisis-- Who Dunit?
(The following is an excerpt from Gary Bauer's, "End of Day.")
And what exactly set off this current round of financial chaos? Major speculation in the housing market – which can be traced back to economic policies mandated by Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, policies that George Bush and John McCain tried to correct in 2003 and 2005. Investors Business Daily offers an excellent analysis which you can read here. But here are a few excerpts:
"To hear today's Democrats, you'd think all this started in the last couple years. But the crisis began much earlier. The Carter-era Community Reinvestment Act forced banks to lend to uncreditworthy borrowers, mostly in minority areas. Age-old standards of banking prudence got thrown out the window. In their place came harsh new regulations requiring banks not only to lend to uncreditworthy borrowers, but to do so on the basis of race. …
"Lenders who refused would find themselves castigated publicly as racists. As noted this week in an IBD editorial, no fewer than four federal bank regulators scrutinized financial firms' books to make sure they were in compliance. Failure to comply meant your bank might not be allowed to expand lending, add new branches or merge with other companies. Banks were given a so-called 'CRA rating' that graded how diverse their lending portfolio was. It was economic hardball. …
"In the name of diversity, banks began making huge numbers of loans that they previously would not have. They opened branches in poor areas to lift their CRA ratings. Meanwhile, Congress gave Fannie and Freddie the go-ahead to finance it all by buying loans from banks, then repackaging and securitizing them for resale on the open market. That's how the contagion began. …
"As they grew, Fannie and Freddie grew heavily involved in 'community development,' giving money to local housing rights groups and 'empowering' the groups, such as ACORN, for whom Barack Obama once worked in Chicago. Warning signals were everywhere. Yet at every turn, Democrats in Congress halted attempts to stop the madness. It happened in 1992, again in 2000, in 2003 and in 2005. It may happen this year, too. …
"The Clinton White House used Fannie and Freddie as a patronage job bank. Former executives and board members read like a who's who of the Clinton-era Democratic Party, including Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelick, Jim Johnson and current Rep. Rahm Emanuel.
"Collectively, they and others made well more than $100 million from Fannie and Freddie, whose books were cooked Enron-style during the late 1990s and early 2000s to ensure executives got their massive bonuses. They got the bonuses. You get the bill."

"I Choose Righteousness" (Theodore Roosevelt)
"I put on righteousness, and it clothed me...." (Job 29:14a)
The Amplified Bible translates our text, "righteousness...clothed itself with me." Job realized in his brokenness that he could cloth himself with nothing redemptive. Only the Living Triune God could do that. But he did realize the heart of the Gospel. Jesus, "the Righteousness of God," clothing "[Him]self with me." This Righteousness, embodied only in Jesus Christ, is the Righteousness which our Father had for Job, and has for you and me. Right standing, sins forgiven, a life set apart solely to Jesus Christ will enable you and me to endure, and, in That Day stand at the Judgment Bar of God.
President Teddy Roosevelt once said, "If I have to choose between righteousness and peace, I choose righteousness." Israel and America right now, more than ever, need such men. Both nations are forsaking righteousness for a peace which says, "Just as long as I have food on my table and a roof over my head, have guarantees from my government, and I can continue to do whatever I please without any interference from anybody, I will forsake all else." This is man's desperate and pathetic attempt to save himself. But "what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?" The forfeiture of the soul to "gain the whole world"---------- this will be the epitaph of the nations.
I pray that you and I have the strength of soul and character today to say with the twenty-sixth President of the United States, "If I have to choose between righteousness and peace, I choose righteousness." And make no mistake; it is "the righteousness of God [which] has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ."
Father, in Jesus' Name, cloth me in You. Amen.

"Lead Me in Your Truth"---- Not Mine
"You called in distress and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah." (Psalm 81:7-- Amplified Bible)
"You called-- I delivered-- I answered-- I tested." Okay, I like the first three, but not the last. Who does, really? Yet the Word tells us to "be assured and understand that the trial [testing] and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience." I guess, then, if I am to walk in "endurance and steadfastness and patience," I must be "tested." It is the Way of Jesus. Now you and I may have another "way," but it is the Way of Jesus Christ which prevails with humanity.
Really, who ever considers in the praying process, or just the "life process" in general, that all four of the "ingredients" in our text are present? We have this uncanny way of taking the Bible and making our own religion, a religion, which has us crying out to God, demanding from Him, even "declaring," all in the supposition that everything is just fine with me and mine. Yet never once do most Believers consider that somewhere in the process I just might need a little, "I tested you at the waters of Meribah."
Some people abuse the passage, "His ways are past finding out," so that they can walk in ways which they think they have "found out"---- their own. But your ways and my ways are not the issue, are they? The issue in life's great battle and sojourn is, "Jesus, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life"
Father, in Jesus' Name, keep me from inventing a new religion. I cry out with the psalmist, "Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths." Amen.

Not "What Would Jesus Do" But "What Did Jesus Do"
"...God...was pleased to reveal His Son in me...." (Galatians 1:15a, 16)
Better than, "What Would Jesus Do," is, "What Did Jesus Do?" WWJD leaves us with speculation on living the Christian life; it is a suppositional religion, Old Covenant thinking. Our text, however, is New Covenant thinking. It reveals the finished work of Jesus Christ "at the Cross." It reveals that the purpose of the Cross was not only to forgive me of my sin, but that the Father might "reveal His Son in me," in you, in His Church----------------- to the lost, to the world.
Jesus did not shed His Blood and die on a cross so that I could copy Him. He died and rose again so that I could "reveal" Him.
Father, in Jesus' Name, may I never be so presumptuous as to think I could copy anything of You. Amen.

"To Reveal His Son In Me"
"....to reveal His son in me...." (Galatians 1:16)
This is and has been the purpose of the Godhead from eternity----- to reveal Jesus Christ in humanity, in you, in me. Yet through the millennia there has been a problem, a confusion, and a seeming contradiction of The Faith. Why is it that so many unbelievers act like believers and so many believers act like unbelievers? Could the answer be so simple as to say that a disproportional emphasis has been placed on right belief and right talk, rather than right behavior?
The "God-Breathed" Word speaks much of our behavior. Later in the Galatian Epistle, Paul writes concerning Peter's conduct. "I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned....He began to withdraw and hold himself aloof....But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all...." He called Peter to account for wrong behavior. Far too many times religionists have relegated this passage to the "faith-works" issue. They have spent far too little time on the behavioral issue.
Our Father's purpose is "to reveal His Son in me," that is, in my flesh, my mind, my tongue, my behavior. It is a Redemption which brings about behavioral change, a Redemption which can bring us to say to the world what Paul said to the Galatian Church, "Be as I am...."
Father, in Jesus' Name, thank You for helping me to see things in The Gospel which I have been unwilling to see. Amen.

The "God-Breathed" Word speaks much of our behavior. Later in the Galatian Epistle, Paul writes concerning Peter's conduct. "I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned....He began to withdraw and hold himself aloof....But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all...." He called Peter to account for wrong behavior. Far too many times religionists have relegated this passage to the "faith-works" issue. They have spent far too little time on the behavioral issue.
Our Father's purpose is "to reveal His Son in me," that is, in my flesh, my mind, my tongue, my behavior. It is a Redemption which brings about behavioral change, a Redemption which can bring us to say to the world what Paul said to the Galatian Church, "Be as I am...."
Father, in Jesus' Name, thank You for helping me to see things in The Gospel which I have been unwilling to see. Amen.
