"Which Ones?"-- A Question For the Impure of Heart

"....But if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandmentsHe said to Him, 'Which ones?'" (Matthew 19:17)

"
Which ones?"  This is the attitude of modern religion.  Foreshadows, types, New Testament fulfillment, all are terms used to deal with the uncomfortable commandments, ones which just might alter my life style.  When Jesus would later tell his disciples, "If you love Me, keep My commandments," they had learned not to ask, "Which ones?"

"
And the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it is this day."  There has never been, Church, a-- "Which ones?"-- in the Word of God.  God does not issue superfluous laws and decrees.  Whether Old Testament or New Testament, the law is "for our good always."  The purpose of the Living Triune God for you and me is to, "preserve us alive."  Jesus said, "I am come that they might have life."  The, "abundantly," was an emphasis of the "God-Breathed" Life which is ours in Jesus Christ.  "They are not just idle words-- they are your life."  Why can He
say this?  He can say this because Jesus is the Word of God, our Preservation, our Life, our Way, our Truth-------------- our Abundantly.

Take a new look at those laws in the "
God-Breathed" Word which you may have relegated to, the "Which ones?" bin. There just may be a healing, a deliverance, an, "abundantly" which has escaped you.

Father, in Jesus' Name, "
Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law."  Amen.

"Before the Mountains Were Brought Forth...."

"Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God." (Psalm 90:2)

This photo, taken from the Apollo 8 mission, is the first thing I see when I open our desktop computer.  It always reminds me just how small we really are----- small planet, small solar system, small galaxy, small universe.  By the way, that's where you and I live, on that small blue and white marble.  Can you find your country?  Didn't think so--------just too small.  I can't even find the great "Super Power."

"
Before"-- how do you speak of, "before," in eternity?  You don't.  Neither do you speak of, "after."  There just is no before or after with our God.  "From everlasting to everlasting You are...."  The Blessed Trinity just Is.  "I am, that I am." Jesus astounded the first century Jews, and succeeding generations with perhaps the boldest claim ever made by a man standing on this planet, "Before Abraham was, I am."  Jesus, "I am," contrasted with Abraham, "was."  We use time/space lingo because that is all we can even hope to grasp.  Jesus, however, was speaking "from" eternity "to" eternity because Jesus is The Eternal One.

Zophar asked Job, "
Can you fathom the mysteries of God?  Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?"  He was later rebuked for his speaking wrongly of God, but he at least "got this right."  The "mysteries" and "limits of the Almighty" in no way can be fathomed.  I think even in our gloriously resurrected bodies we will not be able to "fathom" Him.  I just look "forward" to the day when I "see Him as He is," joining the saints of the ages and angels who "do not rest day or night, saying: 'Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!"

Father, in Jesus' Name, Your "
eternal power and Godhead," though hinted at in the visible world still are as Isaiah said, "unsearchable."  I ask with the psalmist that You give me only the understanding which I can handle.  Amen.

How to "Test The Spirits"

"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." (1 John 4:1)

Pascal, the French scientist and mathematician once said something to the affect, "We are in danger when we only live by half-truths."  This is the modern global media and dominates the political science of most nations---- "half-truths."  The greatest deceptions are not from "half-truths;" they are from 99% truth.  It is the 1% untested falsity that will doom us to defeat in life.  The Prince of deception and his followers are masters of giving you 99% truth.  "
By their fruits you shall know them."  False prophets quote the Bible, give praise-worthiness to the Bible, mention the Name of Jesus, give altar calls, do missions, "worship," claim to be "born again"--- all truth.  But that hidden 1%.  It is like a hidden disease, deep within the body undetected by the most sophisticated technology.  We are not called to be "fruit inspectors," i.e., driven by a "critical spirit," constantly searching for some "dirt" on people.  But we are called to "test the spirits."

How do you "
test the spirits?"  It is not, "Well, I just didn't feel good about it," or, "I didn't 'bear witness.'"  That can get you into very big self righteous trouble.  The verse after our text gives us the test.  "This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God."  It is this last phrase which stands out and declares to all humanity that if anything or anyone, religion, politics, economics, anything is not centered in Jesus Christ, the system and the people are just, "not from God."

This may sound like classic fanaticism.  Of course the Name of Jesus does not have to be in written documents of the various aforementioned aspects of a culture.  But if systems or people do not "
acknowledge," literally, "confess Jesus," they are "not from God."  President Bush confessed Jesus Christ.  Obama does not.  Did Bush do everything correctly?  Of course not.  Do you?  It is not a matter of flawlessness.  It is a matter of "spirit." If "the spirits" are right, righteousness prevails.  If "the spirits" are wrong, unrighteousness prevails.  "This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God:...Every spirit that... confess[es] Jesus is...from God"-------------------- period.

Father, in Jesus' Name, may my confession of Jesus be nothing but a "
spirit...from God."

"Rich Fulfillment"

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: <Sforest@aol.com>
Date: Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 11:56 AM
Subject: "Rich Fulfillment"
To:

"You caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; but You brought us out to rich fulfillment."(Ps.66:12)

"
Rich fulfillment"---- other translations say, "abundance, refreshment, the open air."  The Hebrew word is, "satisfaction," which comes from a root word meaning, "bath, made drunk, soak."  "Rich fulfillment"-- Some times you read a phrase from the Breath of God and He becomes something "new" to you.  It is not necessarily "revelation."  It is impartation.  The Blessed Trinity breathed this Word deep into the depth of my being today, and "rich fulfillment" is mine.

The Message paraphrase renders our text, "He trained us first, passed us like silver through refining fires, brought us into hardscrabble country, pushed us to our very limit, road-tested us inside and out, took us to hell and back; finally he brought us to this well-watered place."  This is the "path" of the Believer in Jesus Christ.  Who cannot say, "Amen," to the psalmist's journey?

Jesus uttered words which the human race had not heard.  "
Come to me...and I will give you rest.....Let not your hearts be troubled.... Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you....If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you."  No one has ever offered such "rich fulfillment," such abundance, such refreshment, such "open air."  If you are His today, He is yours.  Breath deeply of Him, Jesus, the Word of God------------------------------- your "rich fulfillment."

Father, in Jesus' Name, I continually marvel at the "
Rich Fulfillment" You are in my life.  Amen.
