Some people ask, "Why do you go to Berlin and Eastern Europe?" It really started with my Dad. In the early 1950s when the European Common Market was established, I can still remember him saying that "we need to watch this." This was as early as 1951. A brief background-- "In 1951, the Treaty of Paris was signed, creating the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). This was an international community based on supranationalism and international law, designed to help the economy of Europe and prevent future war by integrating its members" (The American Economic Review, May 1958). This was the precursor of the Common Market and the European Union. He knew then what was later developed in the film referred to above. Ken Barnette saw the Biblical premise of all of this when I was but a child in elementary school. This is what commitment to Jesus Christ, His Words, and prayer can do in a person. My Dad was a living, "in-house" example of such living.
Later, in the spring of 1962, just after an Intervarsity Missions Conference, I saw a "vision" of a map of Europe, that's all, just the map. In 1968 I read Brother Andrew's book, God's Smuggler, in one sitting. That night I gave myself to the Church in Eastern Europe, to take Bibles and later to be involved in the "underground" seminary program known as "Biblical Education by Extension." Even though there is no "need" today for what I did in the communist era in Eastern Europe, I have not lost my commitment to this part of Christ's creation. During our upcoming mission, we plan to do some prayer walking in Prague. The need for such a service will only end when Jesus Christ sets His Feet on the Mount of Olives.
Berlin: It has been called "the capitol of Europe." Germany is the dominant economic power in the European Community. While it is the dominant economic power, it is also the most "feared," i.e., the most "watched." Europe still remembers WWI and WWII, the latter being dominated by the attempt of the first state sponsored genocide of the Jews since the time of Mordecai and Esther. I have sat quite a few times in the very room where "The Final Solution of the Jewish Question" was sealed. The intent was summarized by Heydrich at the January 1942 meeting, "From Lapland to Libya, from Vladivostok to Belfast, no Jews. Not one." Haman failed, but the German succeeded in murdering at least 6,000,000 Jews, the real number of Jews, indeed all deaths during the Second War, will probably never be known.
Conclusion: Germany of the 1930's and 40's was a brief foretaste of the last great attempt to exterminate the Jew. I pray in Berlin, because Berlin will be central to, "The Last Days." Berlin is on a collision course with history. The Lord Jesus Christ has called me to serve in that "theater." Sarah and I have a friend who survived a Nazi SS attempt to take her and her brother to use in their perverted plans for Germany. She agrees that the Antichrist will come out of Germany.
Father, in Jesus' Name, I pray that I and all Your People will be faithful in Your call. Amen.
