Only, "Until"

"Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled." (Luke 21:24b)

Within the last 24 hours, another rocket was sent from Gaza into Israel.  I hold Obama's anti-Israel and anti-Semitism responsible (be sure to read article on this accusation on the Blog Site).  His bullying attempts have done nothing but embolden Israel's enemies.  But Obama, Biden, and Clinton can connive and plot all they wish.  Jerusalem is the Capitol City of Israel, more importantly, it is, "the City of the Great King, Jesus."  Of course, to those who do not take the Bible seriously, then I confess, I'm a nut case.  But I say to you, "God is not mocked."  Israel's enemies can threaten, plot, and rattle sabers all they wish.   King Jesus will have His Day!

Our text is from what Biblical scholars have called, "The Olivet Discourse."  It is recorded in the Synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke.  John did not have to speak of this in his Gospel account; the Holy Spirit was "saving" John for, "The Revelation of St. John the Divine."  In our text, Jesus says that Jerusalem would indeed be "trodden down," or, "trampled under foot by the Gentiles...."  But it would only be until, "the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled."  Those "times" are upon us.

I prophesy that in these days you and I will be increasingly pressed hard on our absolute commitment and loyalty to the "God-Breathed" Word.  Events are rapidly occurring which will test whether the Bible, "The Words of God," is for us a religious addendum, or, "They are your life!"  Far too many churchgoers are getting their "prophetic" news from Fox, CNN, MSNBC, and feel-good religious programing--------------- "whose end shall be according to their works."

I repeat myself, I admit it.  But the thought occurred to me the other day, God has been repeating Himself for the last 2000 years.  Every time I read through the Bible I find the Blessed Trinity saying the same Words over and over.  Beware those who are always attempting to give you a "fresh word," or, "For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or hear some new thing."  Personally, I have all I can handle in allowing the Holy Spirit to, "I will put My laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts."  The hymn writer had it exactly, "What more can He say than to you He hath said?" !!

Father, in Jesus' Name, keep me in, "the faith of Jesus," and keep me vigilant.  Amen.

"Give Your Strength to Your Servant"

"Give Your strength to Your servant." (Psalm 86:16)

I like to read the daily Psalms out loud.  They are fundamental to my communion.  I share this text because it was just a powerful blessing to me this morning.

The god of most people on this planet is a deistic god--- I need help; I'm in trouble; give me this or that.  And when you do, you can leave.  David was not imploring some far away god, whom he hoped would come through in his deep need.  David was in communion with his, "
Very Present Help in trouble,.. Immanuel, God with us."

When I read the prayer of our text this morning, I uttered it with deep passion, "
Give Your Strength to your servant."  What peace, what confidence.  It is not some self reliant strength, not some innate personality strength, some "grin-and-bear-it" strength, which far too many attempt to rely upon.  It is, "Your strength," and, He is my now, abiding, "Strength."

Right where you are now, right there, and right here, you and I can affirm together, "
The LORD Jesus Christ is the strength of my life...."

Father, in Jesus' Name, "
Give Your strength to Your servant."  Thank You.  Amen.

Fearful And Wonderful Choices

"Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.  But My people would not heed My voice....So I gave them over to...walk in their own counselsOh, that My people would listen to Me....I would soon subdue their enemies...."  (Psalm 81)

The Hebrew word for, "gave them over," in one manuscript means, "to let loose," to, "set free."  Some people fear the old flippancy of being struck by lightening if they rebel.  I don't.  I fear being left to my own devices.

Can you not remember the days when you were running your own life, how lonely, fearful, uncertain?  "Then," as the chorus says, "Jesus came and He spoke my name."  Oh, the joy, the release, the shackles were off, aka, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"  Why ever would we not, "listen to Me"?  Yet it does happen, even after we experience His Eternal Love.

Our text offers choices.  "Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it," or, "So I gave them over to walk in their own counsels."  Left to ourselves, His Words are just beyond our ability to believe or comprehend.  But, if I have the faith which is-- "and that not of yourselves.  It is the gift of God," I will be able to walk in His, "exceeding great and precious promises."  It is an irrefutable principle of life.  The only way to not just survive, but live life to the full, is to avail myself of what the Bible calls, "the faith of Jesus."  Trusting in, and clinging to Jesus Christ and His Words as my Anchor keeps me from being cut loose to the fearful realm of ---------- "gave them over."

"The Preacher" said, "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments," viz., His Word.  If this is our walk, then when the enemy rears his head, we can live in the assurance, "I [will] soon subdue their enemies, and turn My hand against their adversaries."  On my own?------------------------- well, I'm fair game.

Father, in Jesus' Name, I affirm, cry out today that You are my need, my protection.  Whenever I have walked in the stubbornness of my own heart, it was to my own peril.  You are the "Rock of Ages," My Rock of life.  Amen.
