"The secret ('concealed') things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the Words of this law." (Deuteronomy 29:29,NIV)
I really know less than I know, and the longer life goes the more I realize this. My fundamental theology has not changed; just the part about what, "belong to the Lord," and what, "belong to us...."
Stop trying to understand, "the secret things." They are, "concealed," and probably for a very good reason. Maybe life was never intended to be so complicated as humanity makes it. Paul said, "And having food and raiment, let us therewith be content." Really? Take a look around your house, the highways, your work place, the modern church. Contentment seems to be a "lost art."
I don't have an answer here, but every time I read our text I think of things like Isaac going out into the field in the evening to, "meditate," Brother Lawrence's The Practice of the Presence of God, and here's one: "For we have brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out." Very, very few consider what, "....we can carry...out."
Jesus said that He has called us to, "bear fruit." Fruit bearing does not come from attempting to discover, "The secret/concealed things." Fruit bearing comes from, "the things revealed," e.g., what our Lord Jesus speaks to hearts every day, "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me." This is not complicated to understand, but maybe difficult to accept for a generation which is always attempting to discover, "The concealed things...."
Living in, "the things revealed," will keep us "busy" enough. Don't let anyone deceive you that they can open, "The concealed things."
Father, in Jesus' Name, forgive me when I have neglected, "the things revealed," for, "the concealed things...." Amen.
