"....Who touched Me?...I perceived power going out from Me." (Luke 8:45, 46)
It is said of our Lord Jesus Christ, "who, being in the form of God,..equal with God...humbled Himself." The root word for, "humbled," here means "empty out, hence, without recognition." This is why so many First Century contemporaries did not recognize Jesus; "His own received Him not." When one realizes just Who Jesus Christ Is, however, what humility we see in our text. Some people would think that since Jesus is God Incarnate, He would have known who touched Him. But This One, the God/Man "emptied out, was without recognition," to such a degree that He really asked, "Who touched Me?"
Yet it is our Lord's next statement which was so powerful to me this morning in its implication, "Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me." This, my friend, is my prayer today for you and me, that this will be the kind of praying we will continually pursue, "....power going out from Me." This is life changing, community changing, nation changing prayer. This, "Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me," praying would bring fulfillment to Auguste Franke's pastoral mission statement:
"A Life Changed
"A Church Revived
"A Nation Reformed
"A World Evangelized"
This kind of praying brings healing, deliverance, lives converted, revival, reformation, even city and nation transformation, in short, everything God has for us, when the answer to our Lord's question, "We touched Me," is, "We touched You."
In the last couple of decades the word "transformation" has entered the Church to describe the objective of intercession for men and nations. The dictionary gives little difference between transform and reform, yet each adds to the other. I want nothing less than Franke's mission statement, change, revival, reformation (transformation), and, "Go therefore and make disciples of the nations." But this will only happen when you and I engage in, "power going out from Me," faith-praying, when our Lord Jesus says, "Who touched Me?"----------------- and "turns" to see His Church.
Father, in Jesus' Name, I confess that such praying has been way too little in my life. Holy Spirit, help me to, "....lay aside every weight...." Amen.
