"My Eyes Shall Be on the Faithful In the Land" (Words of a Righteous Leader)

"My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; He who walks in a perfect way, he shall serve me." (King David, Psalm 101:6)

This is the declaration of a king; this is the God-given purpose of government.  Hundreds of thousands of Americans died to defeat those who represented the opposite of our text.  I recently read an article of a "theologian" who believed that Christians should leave governments alone, not get involved in "politics," because it is not our purpose to change "man's government," just "preach the Gospel" and wait for Christ's return.  What a contrast from King David.

I saw a subtitle of an article about Egypt's elections this morning, "Islamist-minded voters hold the fate of the country in their hands."  The article begins with a statement which describes the vast majority of Earth's population: "Egypt's long awaited and much anticipated presidential elections-- the first of their kind to take place in the nation's 7,000 history- are here."  Americans, however, have no such history.  Ours is a history of men and women dying for "self determination."  But since the modern "Christian self" seems to "determine" nothing, the humanist self has taken over the land.

"In 1774, our founding fathers wrote this in the Journal of the Continental congress: 'It is an indispensable duty which we owe to God, our country, ourselves and posterity, by all lawful ways and means in our power to maintain, defend and preserve these civil and religious rights and liberties for which many of our fathers fought, bled and died, and to hand them down entire to future generations.'"  A very sobering reality for Americans is that 50% of those who claim to be Christians, are not even registered to vote, and of that number only 50% actually vote (The Providence Forum).  In other words, 75% of the so-called Christians in America stand aside while the likes of President Obama, Pelosi, Planned Parenthood, the homosexual agenda, Humanists on the Court, etc., rule in the land.  To do nothing, stand by and watch while anti-Christ forces rule in our land is a travesty of the original purpose of America's founders, a desecration of the graves of fallen soldiers, irresponsible, and, yes, sin.  You have heard, I am sure, of the famous quote of Edmund Burke, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."  You will remember that the "do-nothing" servant of Matthew 25 was cut off from the Kingdom.

So what should we do, one may ask?  Of course, walking under the authority of Jesus Christ, commitment to the Scriptures, prayer, the Church, and making, "disciples of all the nations," is our fundamental commission/command.  But how on earth can the Church claim obedience to "The Great Commission," if those who claim to be Christians and have the opportunity to "determine" who rules in their land, do nothing?  "Disciple all the nations," means to change the nations.  Excuse me for stepping over the bounds for some, but if we, "disciple all the nations," those nations will have righteous leaders.  Further, those leaders will govern as mentioned in the passage beyond our text, "He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; he who tells lies shall not continue in my presence.  Early I will destroy all the wicked of the land, that I may cut off all the evildoers from the city of the Lord."  (I would welcome any comments for discussion).

Father, in Jesus' Name, I pray that I will be a, "doer of the Word."  Amen.
