I SHOUT IT

"ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS.  THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFFBUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER."  (1 Peter 1:24, 25-- NASB-- Video Devotional coming a little later today)

This was my yesterday's latter part of the New Testament reading, and this is exactly the way our text is printed in my NASB.  One of our children once told me that writing in capital letters is like shouting.  I wonder if this is what the writers intended.  Anyway, it is very appropriate for me, because, "The Word of God," literally saved, and is saving my life.

Most of you reading this know of my testimony concerning the death of our oldest child, Stephen Paul.  That summer he went home, "to be with the Lord," it was the reading through the Bible in a little over a month period which brought me out of Bunyan's "Slough of Despond;" there is simply no better description of that summer.  Now you may remember, it was when Christian and Pliable fell into that "slough," that after Pliable struggled and got out, he abandoned Christian, and it was Help who rescued Christian.  Oh, Mr. "Help;" how we all need Him.

I know that Christian's "Slough" had to do with the awesome conviction of sin, but our sinfulness is not the only thing which attempts to destroy the Follower of Jesus.  Tragedy, suffering, pain, abandonment, rejection, and the list could go on and on, all these are pitfalls which are designed by the Enemy to destroy the Believer in Jesus Christ.  But that summer so long ago, Jesus, "The Word of God," came to me in the most "real" way I ever experienced, and empowered me, yes, I mean literally empowered me by His Words.  That is what Genesis 1 to Revelation 22 is in reality, the words of Jesus, the, "God-Breathed," Word.

"ALL FLESH IS GRASS."  Indeed, no one has to tell me that.  This grassy flesh was about to, "WHITHER[], AND FALL[] OFF," but I was rescued by, "THE WORD OF THE LORD (Who) ENDURES FOREVER."  Yea, I'm SHOUT'N it.

Father, in Jesus' Name, I can never, ever thank You enough for your Help which brought me out of "The Sough of Despond."  Amen.
