"He Chooses Our Inheritance"

"He chooses our inheritance for us, the glory of Jacob whom He loves."  (Psalm 47:4, NASB)

I'm sitting on our front porch this morning, enjoying one of our rare, perfect temp, sunny days------------- surveying a part of my inheritance.  Just look around you; that's a part of yours also, child of God.  Is not, "the earth...the LORD's, and all its fullness," and are we not, "heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together?"  Yet the sobering thought for us is that whatever money we have, the house we have, the family we have, the church you think you "have," the blessings, the anything you and I have, well, "He chooses our inheritance for us."

Some translate our text, "will choose," others, "chose," and still others, "chooses."  Well, there we have it, don't we?-- past, present, and future, or in Biblical Theology, Eternal.  Whatever the fullness of the meaning, "He (and, "He," alone) chooses our inheritance for us."  We come into the Inheritance of Jesus Christ in Jesus Christ, His Blood, His New Birth, His Water Baptism, His Baptism in the Holy Spirit.  And, we are sustained in, "our inheritance," in obedience to the Breath of God, the "God-Breathed" Word.  A warning here from two examples: The prodigal lost his inheritance by disobedience.  He regained it by obedience.  Concerning the Jews, Paul said, "....They were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith (obedience).  Do not be conceited, but fear...."

Some things in life are really quite simple, are they not?  According to our text, the inheritance which the Holy Trinity has for us is His, and He has allowed us to be graced with the stewardship.  It was His idea, His initiation, His to give, His to keep, His to sustain.  You and I did not create it, we cannot control it, nor can we give it to others, as much as we might want.  No amount of money can buy it, nor tithes and offerings to "great ministries" accrue it for you.  "It is by grace...and...not of yourselves."

Father, in Jesus' Name, I thank You that you have included me in, "The glory of Jacob...."  Grant me the grace to live in, "our inheritance," and declare Your open invitation to all, "Come and dine!"   Amen.
