"He Who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming quickly.' Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." (Revelation 22:20, 21)
It is only fitting that I choose this text since today I finished the Bible. I think it not strange that our Lord Jesus Christ should conclude His Words with these Words, "Surely I am coming quickly." There is, however, less and less reference to this glorious promise. We are told that "millennials" particularly couldn't care less about this. This has been recent "church history."
Peter says in his Second Epistles, "....knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days,..saying, 'Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning. For this they willingly are ignorant of....", says the KJV. Willing ignorance comes from choosing not to accept the, "Words of God," and choosing rather to trust our mental reasoning. That is the battle, my friend. Eve lost this battle because she believed her reasoning rather than the, "Words of God." Jesus warns us of this battle which is so powerful that, "even the elect," were in danger.
It is no surprise that the Bible "ends" with a reminder from our Lord Jesus Christ that He is, "Surely...coming quickly." Do not listen to the naysayers who reason, "For since the fathers fell asleep," nothing of the apocalypse has occurred. Here, instead, are the Words we should believe: "Every eye shall see Him, even those who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen." You and I, however, will rejoice with, "....joy unspeakable and full of glory!"
I conclude this "trip" through the Bible with Jesus' Words, and the benediction of the Godhead, "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen."
Father, in Jesus' Name, "Even so, come, Lord Jesus!" Amen.
When Peter, an 18 year old Norwegian, "heard the call to evangelize China, on that day he not only emptied his wallet into the collection plate, but included a small note with the words, 'and my life.'"
