"Footprints, Footsteps"

"Your way was in the sea, Your path in the great waters, and Your footsteps (footprints) were not known." (Psalm 77:19)

It's always the, "not known," part which bewilders.

In one place the word for, "footprints," or, "footsteps," is translated, "trail."  The word in Arabic means, "mark, sign, trace."  Interesting that, "footprints," are what we see; "footsteps," are what we hear.  Some people act and talk as though they always see the, "footprints," always see the, "trail;" marks, signs, and traces abound.  There have been times when I neither saw nor heard anything.

There was a time in my life when all I saw was blackness, void, nothingness.  But I learned that even when you do not see the, "footprints," or hear, "the footsteps," Jesus is, "a Very (not 'maybe') Present Help in trouble."  The pathway may not be clear, even visible at all, no "signs" of His Presence, not even a "trace," but, "very present," always, in everything is Jesus.  Yes, it's a cute story about the two sets of footprints in the sand, and then only one set.  But the lesson of that story was learned only after the season when there was no ability to go on, just a basket case.

"Footprints," or no, "footsteps," sensing His Presence or not, every Follower of Jesus Christ is a 24/7/366, ever-present child in our Ever-Present Jesus.  My whole life is a testimony to this "Amazing Grace," when I "saw" His, "footprints," or didn't "see" them.  So I say to you today, my friend, that whatever you are going through in this moment, the Bible tells us, "Fret not yourselves."  His, "way," is still, "in the great waters," those waters which may seem as though they are overwhelming you.  You may feel as those who were, "in the sea,..in the great waters," that terrifying time, walking, pulling, carrying through the sea bottom, walls of water on both sides, the other side not even visible.  But the time came when they were "safe on the other side."  Storms don't last forever, even though some may feel as though their whole life has been one storm after another.

The promise of Jesus that, "I am with you always," further assures us that even when we cannot see the, "footprints," or hear the, "footsteps," our, "ever present help," Jesus the Christ, is, "ever present."

Father, in Jesus' Name, what more can I say?  Thank You.  Amen.

When Peter, an 18 year old Norwegian, "heard the call to evangelize China, on that day he not only emptied his wallet into the collection plate, but included a small note with the words, 'and my life.'"
