Proverbs 5

"His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his sin." (Proverbs 5:22)

Our text holds you and me responsible for our, "iniquities," and, "sin."  The warning in Proverbs 5 concerns fornication and adultery.  Most people think and talk as though the only ones with sexual problems are men.  But one out of every two adulterers is a woman.

The Proverbs speak a number of times of the serious danger of allowing passion to rule.  It led David to adultery and murder to cover up the consequences.  This is the man who, "had God's heart."  If it happened to him, it can happen to anyone.  O, Christian, beware.

It is no use to blame circumstances or mental state for our sin.  It is like murderers who are acquitted because of mental illness.  If I were on a jury, nothing would warrant acquittal for murder.  Continue to trust in and only  completely in the Blood of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin and deliverance from sin.  Billy Graham once said, "Given the right situation, the right circumstances, any one of us is capable of anything."

Father, "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."  Amen.

When Peter, an 18 year old Norwegian, "heard the call to evangelize China, on that day he not only emptied his wallet into the collection plate, but included a small note with the words, 'and my life.'"
