"Long Ago And Far Away" Can Be, "Now, In You"

"A hungry person dreams of eating but wakes up still hungry.  A thirsty person dreams of drinking but is still faint from thirst when morning comes."  (Isaiah 29:8-- NLT)

Our text tells us that this is the life of those who "
attack Mount Zion."  So is it true of all those who know not Jesus Christ.

Jerome Kern wrote a song in 1943 called, "Long Ago and Far Away."  It is a romantic song with a haunting Ira Gershwin melody.  It speaks of a soul dreaming a dream about someone of their own creation, someone who would bring them true love---
"Long ago and far away, I dreamed a dream one day
And now that dream is here beside me.
Long the skies were overcast but now the clouds have passed                You're here at last."
We all had such dreams, such an imaginary love.  But when our eyes were opened by the grace of the Holy Spirit and our own desperation, we saw Jesus, and in Jesus we found just how very limited were our "wildest" dreams and imaginations of love.

It is The "
God-Breathed" Word alone Who replaces our ethereal "dreams" of love with the reality of the Love of God, Who is Jesus Christ.  The Bible gives us the revelation of the foundation, upon which if you and I build our lives will never allow, "But when he awakens, his hunger is not satisfied."

Your greatest love will leave you some day.  The "love of your life" will either precede you in death or you precede them.  This is the "
way of all the earth."  But "the way of all the" Heaven, the Way of our Heavenly Father is Eternal Love, "Jesus, Lover of my soul," Who knows no end or beginning, just constancy, no matter what you and I are or do.  The dreams of "Long Ago and Far Away" will fail.  Jesus, Our "Agape never fails."

Father, in Jesus' Name, "
Whom have I in heaven but You?  And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.  My flesh and my heart may fail, but [You are] the strength of my heart and my portion forever."  Amen.
