"Those Who Seek The LORD Understand"

"Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD understand all."  (Proverbs 28:5)

There is a headline in today's Der Spiegel Online which reads, "As the global economic crisis deepens, tempers around the world are getting shorter.  French and British trade unions are organizing strikes, Putin is sending troops into the streets, and Beijing is trying to buy itself calm."  Of course the present American Administration and Congress are blaming George Bush for all of this.  The Obamaites are seizing the moment.  When they fail, they will simply say, "Well, there was little we could do with all the mess Bush left us."  This is "evil men" displaying opportunistic demagoguery.  What is happening around the world is that greed and me-ism has finally caught up with "evil men."  Now Obama and the American Congress are giving "evil men" a new boost.  America put hedonism in the White House and Congress.  Now, it will just have to live with it.

Our text today exposes the present world scene perfectly.  If I wrote something like this Word, I would be accused of arrogance.  But here it is, the very Breath of God, Himself.  There is a line from Tolstoy's War and Peace which goes something like, "When you read, you gain understanding.  When I read, I gain confusion."  According to our text, this has nothing to do with native intelligence, but has everything to do with, "those who seek the LORD."

"Evil men," who "do not understand," are as those whom the Bible says, "seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus."  Men who "understand all," are men such as the "sons of Issachar...who understood the times, with the knowledge of what Israel should do...." They are those who are in Jesus Christ, washed in the Blood of Jesus, submitted to Jesus Christ and His Words.  The former are without understanding of the world around them, advocate whatever is the most pleasurable, and thereby dupe others into believing "the lie."  The latter "seek the LORD" Jesus Christ, submit to, and rest in Jesus Christ, "who became for us wisdom from God-- and righteousness and sanctification and redemption...."

If you want understanding today, do not talk with, or listen to, or read "evil men."  Seek out "those who seek the LORD."  Then you will "understand all."  Yes, you read correctly.

Father, in Jesus' Name, I seek You.  Whatever I "gain" from that is up to You.  Amen.
