Who Are The "Blessed"?

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)

It seems to me a wonderfully comforting promise our Lord Jesus Christ gives us here.  When we are "in mourning," Jesus comforts, no matter how deep, how painful, how seemingly hopeless the sorrow.

"....for they shall be comforted."  People disappoint?  "....for they shall be comforted."  Prayers seem unanswered?  "....for they shall be comforted."  Sickness lingers?  "....for they shall be comforted."

So many times we may read the Bible in an attitude of, "O, read that before."  This is not a good idea.  "The Words of God," are indeed, "powerful...."  They are power, a power to do what nothing nor no one other that He Who Alone is, "The Word of God," can do.  I have been a constant recipient of the Blessed Trinity's power to comfort, especially in these last 47 years.

We do not know what a day, week, month, or year may bring, but we do know that whatever time may bring our way, "Blessed are the poor in spirit,..who mourn,..are meek,..who hunger and thirst after righteousness,..are merciful,..the pure in heart,..the peacemakers,.. who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is," everything we need to walk in this sojourn.

Father, in Jesus' Name, help me to always come to You and Your Words as a little child.  Amen.

Sarah and I are leaving Saturday morning for Florida.  We have spent a lot of money on her sister's funeral expenses and hope and pray that she has some insurance to cover her debts.  We appreciate any prayers.

When Peter, an 18 year old Norwegian, "heard the call to evangelize China, on that day he not only emptied his wallet into the collection plate, but included a small note with the words, 'and my life.'"
