"....Trust Not in Human Wisdom But in the Power of God"

"I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God." (1 Corinthians 2:5, NLT)

This is the crux of the whole human struggle, "human wisdom," verses, "the power of God."  The one is very, very limited no matter how the proud would love to assert otherwise.  The other, well, the other is, "the power of God." This is the Gospel we proclaim, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Gentile."

I had great favor of the Lord Jesus today.  I went to the largest Jewish Cemetery in Europe expecting to have it relatively to myself since it is a Monday.  When I got there, a conference on "Jewish Cemeteries and Burial Cultural in Europe" was just letting out for a lunch break.  After a little nosing around, I discovered that they were having a tour of the whole cemetery right after lunch, with offerings in different languages, English being one of them.  Now, was I going to miss this?  Well, I waxed a little bold and asked the tour guide if I could tag along, and he said, "That would be fine."  I have photos which I will send, but it was quite an experience.  As we were making the tour, I left my ipod on which I have been letting run the whole time I am at work in Berlin.  On April 1, I started at Genesis one and am already near Numbers 30.  I was able to hear the guide, but between locations I took particular note of a passage in Leviticus which spoke of judgment on the Jews for disobedience.  Much of Jewish disobedience is the result of, "human wisdom," verses, "the power of God," just as it is with Gentile disobedience.  The Jews have been no worse than we Gentiles when it comes to disobedience.

I encourage you today to keep in mind that since the beginning, everything the Godhead has done has been to write on the hearts of men, "I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God."

Father, in Jesus' Name, I readily confess the sin.  I pray a continual eagerness to, "trust...in the power of God."  Amen.
