"Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another...." (Romans 12:10)
Or, "Be tenderly loving." The next time someone irritates you, obey that.
The word translated, "preference," means, "to lead the way for others." The idea also includes deference, but deference, in all practicality for many, is just some sort of passive giving over to others. "To lead the way for others," is to be active. It is using our gifts to be what our Lord Jesus said we are, "You are the light of the world." I wonder what our particular environs would be like if we obeyed our text unequivocally.
The command in our text today is, "to lead the way for others," all the "others." It would have an interesting effect on evangelism. Instead of always trying to instruct others in the way of salvation, just "lead the way for others"-------------------- to Jesus Christ, into His Kingdom.
Father, in Jesus' Name, help me to be less instructive and more, "lead the way for others." Amen.
