"The wicked borrows and does not repay, but the righteous shows mercy and gives....Blessed is he who considers the poor; the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.  The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, and he will be blessed on the earth....As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God." (From Psalms 37, 41, 42)
We are praying through the Book of Psalms during the month of October, specifically targeting the coming US Presidential and Congressional election.  Praying the Scriptures is not difficult.   Just substitute your name, your family, neighborhood, congregation, business, government, etc., in the text.  You will, if you have not already, discover how powerful the Word Himself can pray on behalf of men and nations.
I had a thought on yesterday's Psalm "prayer guide" for the coming election. Based on our text, what if Christian borrowers repaid all their loans consistently and on time, and what if "the righteous" consistently showed mercy and gave------------------------- consistently?   Or, here's a novel thought.  What if we give equal time to doing the Word as we do to confessing and declaring the Word?  In other words, what if Christians just started acting like Christians?
I am convinced that most people make the Bible much too religious, i.e., confine its commands, lessons, etc., to the devotional, the Sunday School class, the ethereal.  Maybe that is why so few Christians submit to the counsel of the Word in all areas of life, e.g., "I don't get involved in politics, economics, the education of my children, etc."   The fact of history and life teaches us that if Believers in Jesus Christ and His Words choose their areas of involvement, what they choose to stay out of, the world will all too eagerly take for themselves.
I am constantly amazed at the childish approach to life of religious people.  They confine themselves to worship, prayer, Bible reading, religious activity, while the anti-Christ forces rule the world around them.  Then they look with surprised wonder at the outcome.  Have nothing to do with that life style.  "....The deer pants for the water brooks," and the Church "pants for the" the Lord Jesus Christ.  If we really do, it won't just be in a devotional, worship sense.  It will be in the whole-life-obedience sense.
Father, in Jesus' Name, continually open new vistas of obedience to me.  Amen.
