"HOW DESERTED LIES THE CITY...."

"How deserted lies the city, once so full of people!  How like a widow is she, who once was great among the nations!  She who was queen among the provinces has now become a slave."  (Lamentations 1:1, NIV)

Now some may appraise the following statement as "over the top."  For me, it is not.  This was my first visit to Capitol Hill since the onslaught of the pandemic.

I experienced something today which I have never experienced before; this is no exaggeration!   You have heard, no doubt, and even mostly likely said yourself of the past year, "I have never seen anything like this."  Well, this is exactly what I experienced in the Capitol of the world's "greatest" super power.  A town which bustles throughout the year, not just what some think of as "tourist season," felt like a small town today.  Capitol Hill was the worst.  At a few times, there was no one on the street, at times one car, other times no cars.  I saw two taxis pass in a two hour period.  There were literally a handful of tourists, when in "normal" times there are many, from many nations, all over Capitol Hill, constant vehicular traffic, taxis by the scores, the hustle and bustle of government workers walking to and fro.

I am still in an "appraisal" mode, perhaps a "processing" mode.  I personally felt, again, as never before, a watchman.  Pray with me that, "Whoever has ears,..hear[s] what the Spirit says to the churches."

Father, in Jesus' Name, help me to hear and see what you are saying and showing.  Amen.

When Peter, an 18 year old Norwegian, "heard the call to evangelize China, on that day he not only emptied his wallet into the collection plate, but included a small note with the words, 'and my life.'"
