"....Whose Word I Praise"....

"In God, Whose Word I praise, in the Lord, Whose Word I praise; I shall not be afraid.  What can man do to me?"  (Psalm 56:10,11)

I have said and written before that there were thousands in the Israeli Army that day when David did battle with the giant who could have done what David did.  The Book of Judges tells us of Jews who could, "....sling stones at a hair-breath, and not miss."  We are told that a sling could hurl a stone two hundred yards.  Also, a sling could hurl a stone with such force that it could pierce armor.  Even though David was skillful with this most formidable ancient weapon, what was playing out that day as Israel encountered the Philistine Army was a young shepherd living, "In God, Whose Word I Praise...I shall not be afraid."

I once read an article about the David-Goliath encounter entitled, "The
God of the Impossible."  That does not apply here.  The only "impossible" that day, it seems, was finding a person like David, whose life was base upon, "The Lord [Jesus Christ] is my Shepherd; I shall not lack."  What was needed that day on the valley floor was not just ability, but the courage of faith, a faith which does not just "confess" and "declare."  We are told that the soldiers would line up for battle every day and make a lot of noise-------- and did nothing.  David, on the other hand, acted upon, "In God, Whose Word I praise.., I shall not be afraidWhat can man do to me?"

Father, in Jesus' Name, help me to see that what I call "impossible" is not always so.  Amen.

When Peter, an 18 year old Norwegian, "heard the call to evangelize China, on that day he not only emptied his wallet into the collection plate, but included a small note with the words, 'and my life.'"
