"You...Keep My Lamp Burning"

"For it is You Who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness." (Psalm 18:28, ESV)

I sent a brief video devotional on this text.  I used our old desktop and am not sure of the quality.  Anyway, our text was/is such a blessing to me.  Just reading a very familiar passage, just sitting in a chair with a cup of coffee, just enjoying fellowship in the Living Triune God -- what more is life?

This Psalm is from a battle scene.  The ESV intro says, "To the choirmaster.  A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, who addressed the words of this song to the Lord on the day when the Lord rescued him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul.  He said: 'I love you, O Lord my strength.'"  What follows is a communion with His Good Shepherd, Jesus, the same Good Shepherd which lives and abides in you and me eternally.

David, king, warrior, "the sweet psalmist of Israel," shares his struggle with you and me here in the Psalm, a frail, sinful human, just as needy as you and I, just as weak, just as desperate.  Yet what a great affirmation of the just Who Is our God.  In the words of the CEV, "You, the Lord God, keep my lamp burning and turn darkness to light."  Yes, this great truth, this great comfort is for you and me, for all who continually surrender their lives to Jesus Christ and walk in obedience and love in Him.  There are enemies many, and their are "Sauls" in particular.  Yet Jesus, our continual burning lamp, "light of the world," turning all, "darkness to light," empowers us in the Power which He Is to walk rightly before them all.

Father, in Jesus' Name, "You, the Lord God, keep my lamp burning and turn darkness to light," yes, You do---- and have.  "What Wondrous Love." Amen.

When Peter, an 18 year old Norwegian, "heard the call to evangelize China, on that day he not only emptied his wallet into the collection plate, but included a small note with the words, 'and my life.'"
