"Things Which Cannot Be Shaken"

"See to it that you do not refuse Him who speaksFor if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, 'Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.'  Now this, 'Yet once more,' indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain."  (Hebrews 12:25-27)

Look at your life; look at your life's history and ask, "What here is shakable and what is, 'unshakable.'"  It is only the latter which, "will remain."  Is is not true that a wise person invests only in, "things [which] remain"?  Now I am not writing here of life in a monastery.  We go to our work, mow grass, rake leaves, etc.  But we are commanded, "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward;..for you serve the Lord Christ."  Living, working, recreating, relating, "heartily, as to the Lord...Jesus Christ," is living the life of, "the things which cannot be shaken may remain."  If I "do" life any other way, I will be giving myself to, "the removal of those things that are being shaken...."

A daily "reality check" is good for us all.  Is my life given to the shakable or the, "unshakable"?  The following passage from 1 Corinthians 3 (The Message) is not just for preachers and "full-time" workers.  It's is for all of us.  "Remember, there is only one foundation, the one already laid: Jesus Christ.  Take particular care in picking out your materials (for building).  Eventually there is going to be an inspection.  If you use cheap or inferior materials, you'll be found out.  The inspection will be thorough and rigorous.  You won't get by with a thing.  If your work passes inspection, fine; if it doesn't, your part of the building will be torn out and started over.  But you won't be torn out; you'll survive-- but just barely."  I'm afraid this is how too many of us will, "survive."

Jesus Christ commands us to, "Follow Me," and, "Abide in Me."  This is a command with benefit, pleasure, makes us unshakable, and pleasing to God.  And I only want one thing said of me at the end of my life here, "For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God."  Such people are those who ...remain."

Father, in Jesus' Name, deliver me from a, "barely," life.  Amen.
