"How Little Portion is Heard of Him"

"Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him?  but the thunder of his power who can understand?" (Job 26:14)

"Parts of his ways...."  Think just now of the person you believe to be the most "spiritual," the most powerful teacher, one with the greatest, most consistent prophetic revelation.  Finished?  Well that person, just like you and me, knows, "parts of his ways"!  Several translations go on to say, "how faint," or, "small the whisper we hear of him!"  The NASB says, "And how faint a word we hear of Him!"  To all who see themselves as "confessors" or counselors for the less enlightened, all you have is, "how faint a word...."

The devastation today in the Pacific Basin from the 8.9 earthquake has shown and reported suffering on a massive scale.  Most of humanity has touched suffering in some form and to some degree, yet I never try to answer the "whys."  Job, however, is a great example of a surrendered- life attitude.  All throughout the Book of Job, though confused at times, even despairing of life itself, we read of Job's surrender to the Divine mystery.  After all his reasoning, all his questions, his confusion, perhaps his greatest statement was, "Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes."

Father says to Son, Jesus, "You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.  They will perish, but You remain; and they will all grow old like a garment."  The best rest for the human soul today is in Jesus Christ.  The Greek word for, "laid," here is in the present active indicative mood, and has the sense of agreement.  Can I suggest, the Blessed Trinity is creating, sustaining, empowering, caring for, "upholding all things by the Word of His power," any who are suffering, have questions, answered or unanswered, yet thankful for however, "faint the whisper we hear of Him."

Father, in Jesus' Name, thank You for the, "little...portion," I hear of You.  Amen.
